Namak Para

Instead of shopping for snacks this weekend, I decided to make some weekend snack. This time I decided to make Namak para, a crispy and crunchy team time snack. The ingredients are easily available and all you have to do is knead a stiff dough. Roll out flat chappati like circles and cut out small biscuits.

Mix all the ingredients together

Drain on an absorbent paper

Ingredients:

  • Flour / Maida: 1 cup
  • Rava / Sooji / Semolina: 2 tbsp
  • Black pepper powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Sesame seeds / Till : 1 tsp
  • Carom seeds / Ajwain : 1/4 tsp
  • Oil (for deep frying)

Method:

  • Mix all the ingredients
  • Add two tablespoons of hot oil
  • Keep adding little amounts of water bind to a stiff dough
  • Let the dough sit for 10-15 minutes
  • Take a small portion of the dough and using a rolling pin roll out a flat circle like a chappati
  • Take a knife and make vertical cuts and the diagonal cuts to make diamond(rhombus like) shape pieces.
  • Or make vertical and horizontal cuts to make square or rectangular pieces
  • Heat oil in a wok for deep frying
  • Once the oil is hot and ready reduce the flame
  • Drop a batch of the para pieces into the hot oil for frying
  • Fry for a little over a minute till a slight brown color appears
  • Remove from the wok and spread the fried para on an absorbent paper to drain the excess oil
  • The fried para becomes crisp as it is exposed to the air and cools down
  • Tea time snack is ready
