Cucumber Raita

The cucumber raita is a great compliment to biryanis and chappatis. The cucumber is grated mixed with yogurt and then tempered with mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Some chat masala is added to give a raita a tangy hint.

Peel and grate the cucumber

Whip the curd with some chili powder, asefotiada and chat masala powder.

Mix in the grated cucumber and salt.

Add the tadka to the raita mix and serve


  • Cucumber: 1
  • Yogurt: 1 cup
  • Red chili powder: ¼ tsp
  • Chat masala powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Asefotida powder
  • Mustard seeds: ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds: ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves: 10-12
  • Oil: 2 tsp
  • Salt


  • Peel off the skin of the cucumber
  • Grate the cucumber
  • Whip the yogurt and mix the grated cucumber


  • Heat oil in a wok
  • Add the mustard seeds and let them crackle
  • Add the cumin seeds
  • Add the curry leaves
  • Turn off the heat and let the tadka cool a little
  • Mix in the yogurt-cucumber
  • Add salt to taste and server
