Cornflakes Chivda Recipe

Corn flakes chivda or makai chiva is very easy to make. Having a pack of dried cornflakes always comes in handy. It cooks fast and it is easy to prepare a snack using corn flakes. All you have to do is deep fry each ingredient separately and mix them together with some seasoning. The dried corn flakes are not the ones used in cereals. These flakes are available in Indian supermarkets and are really crunchy when fried. I have done a basic mixture but you vary the  toppings with fried peanuts, fried almonds, fried dry coconut slices, fried raisins, fried cashews etc.

Cornflakes Chivda Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Corn flakes: 2 cups
  • Peanuts: 1/2 cup
  • Cashews:¬†1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves: 12-15
  • Red Chili powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Powdered sugar: 1/2 tsp
  • Salt
  • Oil for deep frying

Method:

  • Heat oil for deep frying
  • Once the oil is hot reduce the flame and fry the corn flakes in batches. The flakes take very less time to get fried. Remove and drain the excess oil on an absorbent paper
  • In the same wok fry the peanuts and then fry the cashews
  • Wash and pat dry the curry leaves before you fry it
  • Now mix all the fried ingredients. Sprinkle the seasoning (red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt) and give it a good toss

Note:

  • Other toppings(almonds, raisins, dry coconut slices) can be deep fried and added to the mix
  • A steel sieve or a frying sieve can be used to make the frying process easier
